Health Equity

The Florida Department of Health Office of Minority Health and Health Equity recognizes that Florida's racial and ethnic populations continue to increase in size, correlating with persistent and often growing health disparities.

Despite notable progress in improving the health status of Floridians, substantial gaps continue to exist in the health status of Blacks, Hispanics, Native Americans, and Asian/Pacific Islanders when compared to the state's overall population.

Addressing the higher rates of death and disease in Florida's racial and ethnic minority groups requires understanding the underlying causes of these disparities and developing strategies to address these risk factors.
