Finding and treating cancer early is important. It can be the difference between life and death. The Florida Department of Health in Pasco County’s (DOH-Pasco) Breast and Cervical Cancer Early Detection Program can help. It provides cancer screenings to eligible women.
Eligibility
To be eligible, a woman must meet these requirements:
- Be a Florida resident
- Be 40–64 years of age or
- Women at any age with a personal history of breast cancer, or who have completed treatment for invasive cervical cancer may be eligible
- Have no health insurance to cover the cost of clinical breast exams, mammograms or Pap smears
- Household income less than or equal to 200% federal of the poverty level
Early detection is the key to successful treatment. Call right away if you have new breast pain, breast lumps, nipple discharge, or other changes.
DOH-Pasco provides the following services:
- Breast and cervical cancer screening exams (clinical breast exams, mammograms, and Pap tests) to approximately 5% of the at need population as funding allows
- Diagnostic funds are reserved for women screened through the program
- Care coordination to all clients with abnormal exams
- Women screened through the program and diagnosed with breast or cervical cancer are referred to the Florida Medicaid Program for eligibility determination
- Paid breast and cervical cancer treatment through Medicaid for eligible women screened through the program
We will pay for most services you receive if you are eligible, however there may be some shared costs. Treatment may be paid by Medicaid.
